AlertSeats™ Make An Impact In Variety of Educational Settings
|
“AlertSeats in a Learning Support classroom at the Shippensburg, Pa Intermediate School.” |
At Archbishop Damiano School AlertSeats™ are considered therapeutic tools by the professional staff who utilize them in classrooms, therapy sessions and the gym to help students with severe physical and cognitive disabilities.
Harrisburg Academy, an academically challenging private school, finds that AlertSeats™ are beneficial for children who fidget or who need to focus better to succeed in the classroom.
As a school that serves people with development disabilities, the John Paul II Center adopted AlertSeats™ to help students strengthen their core muscles and provide sensory integration.
Different schools in different areas with different student populations, but a shared belief that AlertSeatsTM benefit those in their charge.
AlertSeats™ are now in use at more than 80 schools and therapeutic settings in 12 states and one foreign country, as well as numerous private homes. [See list].Schools that use AlertSeats™ are satisfied with results they can see, but the benefits of a therapy ball in a metal base over standard rigid classroom chairs gets support from research, too.
A study published in The American Journal of Occupational Therapy reports marked improvement in the observed behaviors of children with ADHD, and clinically significant decline in scores on the Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Test (ADHDT) when their ordinary classroom seats were replaced by stability balls similar to the AlertSeat™.
A Minnesota graduate student studied students in special education classrooms who were given AlertSeat-type chairs and found improved behavior, fluency and comprehension.
The same effects have been observed in regular classrooms, too, like the fourth grades at Shippensburg Area Intermediate School, where conventional chairs were replaced by AlertSeats™. According to the principal, seeing AlertSeats™ have a positive impact in an elementary autistic support class made him wonder if they might have similar effects in regular classes. He is now convinced they do.
